For this show, the characters were all representing concepts rather than characters. The designer came up with the idea of having each character wear a symbol that represents them. The actors all submitted ideas for symbols that they thought represented the concepts they were portraying. As the assistant designer, I then rendered final designs for, these symbols, printed them onto fabric, and and stitched them to a backing and a magnet allowing the actors to switch out their symbols throughout the show. The cast switched roles for each performance, so each actor had to have personalized symbols for all roles they could possibly portray at any given show.
